About Our Y2K Services

    ILS International employs the finest available industry experts to help our clients maximize the effectiveness of the technology we use. Our Y2K consulting resources are not only software tools experts, they are Application Development experts who have managed or contributed significantly to large development projects, including the Year 2000. In fact some of our consultants have trained the staff of many US/States Government agencies, Fortune 500 companies and many of the world largest consulting firms - some of them opening "Y2K Factories" around the world - to use the same tools and methodologies we are offering you. Our consultants apply that knowledge to every new engagement, and can help you address the Assessment and Remediation of date-sensitive applications.

    Our knowledge of where to look for date sensitivity and what constitutes date-sensitive logic helps our clients manage their Y2K project on TIME and on BUDGET the two factors governing success or failure of Y2K projects. We have the knowledge and experience to implement solutions which maximize efficiency, and minimize the time and money you spend on your Year 2000 project.

    One of the primary benefits we do offer our clients is a timely and cost-effective implementation of our solutions.

    Looking past the assessment phase, some of our expert consultants have successfully established, supported COBOL workstation development environments or trained staff for America's top corporations and State/US Government agencies. We believe to complete a Y2K assessment and renovation project successfully requires knowledge of all aspects of the development life cycle. Our team understands the development process and all the steps involved in creating an environment that is efficient, productive and easy to use. We not only focus on the installation and configuration of our tools to support the success of your Y2K project, but we help our clients focus on the issues that are unique and important to their organization. Test data management, source management, and internal support structures are just some of the key issues we can help you address. In delivering our solutions, we offer three main levels of services: Silver Platter, Gold Platter and Platinum Platter which are described below.

Silver Platter

Y2K Consulting

    Included in this service are up to three (3) full days of consulting if needed to perform the following:

    1. Describe a blueprint for assessment and implementation by introducing and modifying our Year 2000 Project Plan to meet specific criteria

    2. Install and configure our various tools on the Y2K workstation(s)

    3. Review the configuration with the client and establish projects and source component libraries tailored to the client's existing development and maintenance environments libraries

    4. Assist the client with integrating our tools with existing tools and approaches to help in synchronizing with the current maintenance tools to be used for remediation

    5. Supervise the identification and loading of source components where applicable (source code, definitions, copybooks, CICS Tables, IMS Tables, data files, RDBMS tables, etc.)


    What We Perform

      Analyze and identify all related date fields for Remediation on a Line Of Code (LOC) basis. There is no limit to the number of lines of code we can process except as specified by the customer. At the customer's discretion as to the solution they elect as part of their Year 2000 strategy, we perform the following:

      1. Where a Windowing Solution is selected we perform on the following components:

        • COBOL programs and COPYBOOK members only

          1. Impact Analysis

          2. File Analysis

          3. Component Analysis

          4. Analysis for source code capable of a windowing solution, using a base set of industry standard search criteria available. These criteria may require customized refinement based on customer coding style prior to performing a complete assessment and detailed analysis.

          5. Reviewing with the client the estimate of their exposure to date calculations affected by the century change.

          6. Work to transfer knowledge of Year 2000 process to users in an "over the shoulder"/ mentoring environment during a period not to exceed one (1) full day (which is part of the 3-day consulting period specified above).


    1. Where a Date Field Expansion Solution is selected

      • COBOL programs and COPYBOOK members

      • CICS programs and tables (BMS, FTC, PCT, etc.) and COPYBOOK members
      • IMS programs and tables (MFS, DBD, PSB, etc.) and COPYBOOK members

      • ASSEMBLER modules

      • PL/1 modules

      • SQL

        1. Impact Analysis

        2. File Analysis

        3. Component Analysis

        4. Reviewing with the client the estimate of their exposure to date calculations affected by the century change.

        5. Work to transfer knowledge of Year 2000 process to users in an "over the shoulder"/ mentoring environment during a period not to exceed one (1) full day (which is part of the 3-day consulting period specified above).


      1. Where a combination of Windowing AND Field Expansion Solutions is necessary

        • COBOL programs and COPYBOOK members

        • CICS programs and tables (BMS, FTC, PCT, etc.) and COPYBOOK members
        • IMS programs and tables (MFS, DBD, PSB, etc.) and COPYBOOK members

        • ASSEMBLER modules

        • PL/1 modules

        • SQL

          1. Impact Analysis

          2. File Analysis

          3. Component Analysis

    What We Deliver

      There are two (2) sets of deliverables which are completed before the actual source code is being modified to meet the year 2000 compliance:

      1. Over three dozens of Reports Produced

        1. Seven main reports which include: Detailed Date Assessment, Implementation Estimates, File Input report, Points of interest by application, Points of interest by program, Points of interest by source file, Metrics and Statistics displaying the complexity of each program and the number of lines and statements in each paragraph and program.

        2. In addition to the above reports, if requested or needed any of the following reports may be produced for Windowing Or Date Field Expansion Solution: Cross Reference Reports for Batch Files, Copybooks, CICS Datasets, Files by Program, Programs by Files Accessed, Line Count Loaded by Each Component, Parsing Errors List, Missing Components, Files Not Found, Copybook lists, I-O Record Grouping, Hard-Coded Literals by Program, Copybooks with no Referenced Variables, Unused Paragraphs, Unused Logic in Procedures, Unused Program Variables, etc...


    1. Source Files Tagging

      1. For Windowing Solution we provides line tagging by inserting customer-defined text, comments, and/or code into the source code of selected items (Point of interest), therefore applying the necessary coding to support the Y2K compliance is easy to automate and the work load may be distributed among programmers.

      2. For Date Field Expansion Solution you have two options: Automatic replacement of PICTURE clauses by using the translation values, (i.e. change 9(2) ==> 9(4), 99 ==> 9999). Or generate a report that keeps a record of all the PICTURE clauses [which need expansion] that you use to modify the source code at your own time perhaps using your own tools whether Mainframe or PC based.


    Gold Platter

    What We Deliver

      The following will be performed:

      1. Same deliverables as specified in Silver Platter level of service

      2. We do all the necessary coding and compile on all source code (programs, COPY/INCLUDE members, BMS, MFS, PSB, DDL, etc.) that has been tagged for Y2K compliance modification and have it ready to be moved the customer's UNIT/SYSTEM TESTING or PRODUCTION platform.


    Platinum Platter

    What We Deliver

      The following will be performed:

      1. Same deliverables as specified in Gold Platter level of service.

      2. We do the UNIT TESTING of every program that has been modified for Y2K compliance using our computing platform(s), the customer's computing platform(s) or a combination of both which ever is more efficient.

      3. If not already done by the customer, we write all the necessary programs (or use tools) to convert the current data (sequential, relative, indexed data files, relational database tables, etc.) to expand the year portion of the date field to four digits (CCYY) using our computing platform(s), the customer's computing platform(s) or a combination of both which ever is more efficient at the Additional Contracting Labor rate shown in the Price list in effect. This may be also accomplished for history and archive data if requested.


    Platinum+ Platter

    What We Deliver

      The following will be performed:

      1. Same deliverables as specified in Platinum Platter level of service items A and B.

      2. We do the SYSTEM TESTING of every program that has been modified for Y2K compliance using our computing platform(s), the customer's computing platform(s) or a combination of both which ever is more efficient at the Additional Contracting Labor rate shown in the Price list in effect.

      3. If not already done by the customer, we write all the necessary programs (or use tools) to convert the current data (sequential, relative, indexed data files, relational database tables, etc.) to expand the year portion of the date field to four digits (CCYY) using our computing platform(s), the customer's computing platform(s) or a combination of both which ever is more efficient at the Additional Contracting Labor rate shown in the Price list in effect. This may be also accomplished for history and archive data if requested.
